Along with some very cool features, the MySonar self-service console also gives users the ability to Unblock URLs for other groups (if enabled). For example, you can give the Staff group this ability to unblock certain URLs for Students if they have been requested. Staff will not be able to unblock requested URLs for themselves. Users who have the Unblock URL function will only be able to unblock URLs for Groups who are below their own Group in the Group Hierarchy. The image below is an example of Group Hierarchy.

  

If the Unblock URL function was enabled in the above example, users in the Group "AD_Staff" will be able to unblock requested URLs for the "AD_Student-Group" as well as the "AD_Student-Group_OverQuota", but notthe "AD_Admin" group or their own group "AD_Staff". Anyone in "AD_Admin" will be able to Unblock requested URLs for anyone in "AD_Staff", "AD_Student-Group" and "AD_Student-Group_OverQuota" but not for their own group. To order Group Hierarchy, simply drag and drop groups into one another. You have to ensure that the Group you want to allow to Unblock URL has the setting "Allow Filter Changes" ticked in their Group settings. Or else they will not be able to make any changes to Groups below them.

HOW DO I ENABLE UNBLOCK URL?

Unblock URL can be enabled in the same place as enabling MyClassroom, MyMail, and MyFiles. In the desired group, in Settings -> Privileges, click the [...] ellipsis button next to "Allow Filter Changes" and tick the "mysonar_unblock" option to enable the Unblock URL tab in MySonar.

It is important to note that this option also allows users to unblock any domain or URL that want, but only for Groups lower than theirs in the hierarchy. Blocked sites and URLs can also be requested to be unblocked via the Sonar Block Page, but that option to request has to also be enabled.

HOW DO I ENABLE THE REQUEST UNBLOCK FEATURE?

Back into the desired group, under Settings -> Privileges, click the [...] ellipsis button next to "Allow Filter Changes" and tick the "block_page_reqblock" option to enable the Request Unblock Feature.

With this feature enabled, when a user visits a page that is blocked, they can request that the page be unblocked, and users with the Unblock URL feature in MySonar can view and veto those URLs and unblock them if necessary. An example of what a user would see to request a page be unblocked is displayed below.

HOW DO I UNBLOCK A URL?

Once you have enabled the above settings to allow the Unblock URL feature, visit MySonar and click the Unblock URL tab. A page like the one below will show.

For the example above, you'll see that the user can select multiple groups to unblock URLs for. To unblock a particular URL however, type in the domain or the URL into the blue URL field, click the corresponding Group which should appear in the "Group" field and then Submit. Requested URLs will appear in the field above "Group", which will show the user who requested the URL to be unblocked, and the Reason for why that URL was blocked in the first place. For the example above, "student two" has requested thathttp://www.arts.vic.gov.au be unblocked, as it was blocked due to a "Dating_Personals" category. To unblock requested URLs, tick the box of the URL as displayed above, then the desired Group you want to unblock it for, then "Submit".

URL unblock requests can also be done by Admins in the Admin GUI, under Network -> Proxies -> Block Req. Admins have a few more privileges than users who use the MySonar option, with the ability to delete all Block Requests, Copy, Move, and print the list.
